As a Politics/Environmental Studies major interested in international development, attaining a fall internship at UNEP's Regional Office for North America (UNEP RONA) was like a dream come true. Over the summer, I was chosen to be part of UNEP RONA's new youth network on environmental education. The majority of my internship was spent helping to develop this network and planning our kick-off conference in Chicago.
I worked long hours but always felt lucky to have an internship where I was treated as a valued member of the team, working directly under the Deputy Director. Currently, I have an internship at the White House Office of Political Affairs, another valuable intern experience. I know that having a letter of recommendation from UNEP helped both in attaining that internship and in receiving awards such as the Udall Scholarship for environmental advocates. I still have one more year left at Whitman College but hopefully one day I will be working full-time at the United Nations! |
