Photo of Sofia RamsteinI have always been concerned and involved in promoting a more equitable and sustainable world. I am in my second year of graduate school, studying both environmental science and international policy, at Sciences Po and Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris, France. I am the president of Sciences Po Environment, an organization aiming to make the campuses greener and to increase environmental awareness among the Sciences Po community. We have developed many projects such as protecting the biodiversity of bees, encouraging people to take low-carbon-emission transportation, recycling, and organizing conferences and a sustainable development week. As part of my degree, I also had the opportunity to study at George Washington University for one year, and this experience helped me to better understand environmental issues in the United States and the crucial need for all countries to be part of the global effort towards creating the sustainable future we need.

I am very honored and excited to be interning at UNEP RONA. It is amazing to think that I am now working on the topics I am used to studying and writing papers about in class such as the green economy, sustainable cities, and the preparation of the “Rio+20” conference. And it is also somehow thrilling and even more challenging because UNEP has such a direct impact in our global endeavors towards sustainability. I believe the global challenges we face are huge but we have no choice but to face them. I will finish my internship in September to be back to school for my last semester of graduate school and I hope to continue to be involved in environment international policy.
